Dr. Francis Collins, former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute and leader of the Human Genome Project, a $300 million effort that mapped the approximately 20,000-25,000 genes that make up human DNA, said just five years down the road anyone will be able to obtain a personal genetic map for as little as $1,000. Collins addressed about 500 people on Oct. 29 in the PHHP auditorium at the UF Health Science Center. (Photo by Sarah Kiewel/University of Florida)
