'Moonlight and Martinis' to benefit locals with Alzheimer's disease, memory disorders

What: ElderCare of Alachua County invites the public to enjoy a night of dinner and dancing at Moonlight and Martinis, a gala Feb. 4 benefiting Al’z Place, a daycare facility for adults with Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders. Guests will enjoy live music, delicious cuisine and a live and silent auction of paintings created by Al’z Place clients.
Al’z Place is a program of ElderCare of Alachua County. The center provides therapy and recreational activities for people 18 and older, while also giving their caregivers a respite. It is one of only three model day care facilities in the state for people with Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders.

Background:
Al’z Place provides care for people age 18 and older with Alzheimer’s disease or severe memory impairment. The adult program is available five days a week, eight hours a day. Therapeutic activities include physical exercise, active and quiet games, reminiscence, validation therapy, doll therapy and other failure-free activities.
