MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT UPDATE

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 2-6-12 – NOON

Regarding patients received at Shands at UF after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 on Sunday, Jan. 29: No additional information since the 2-3-12 report. Three patients remain in the hospital. Of the original 20 patients, 17 have been treated and released. We will post additional information as it becomes available.

Because of privacy laws, we are unable to release specific patient information. If the news media has the name of a patient, and they are listed in our directory, we can look up that patient to provide a one-word condition report, per HIPAA guidelines.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 2-3-12 – 4:15 P.M.

Regarding patients received at Shands at UF after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 on Sunday, Jan. 29: Two patients have been discharged since our 11:30 a.m. update. Three patients remain in the hospital. Of the original 20 patients, 17 have been treated and released. We will post additional information as it becomes available.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 2-3-12 – 11:30 A.M.

Regarding patients received at Shands at UF after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 on Sunday, Jan. 29: *Further review reveals the total number of patients received from the I-75 accidents was 20, not 22, as previously reported. Two patients who were originally counted as involved in the accident were not. At this time, five patients still remain in the hospital. All others have been treated and released. Because of privacy laws, we are unable to release specific patient information. If the news media has the name of a patient, and they are listed in our directory, we can look up that patient to provide a one-word condition report. Please note that it is customary for trauma patients to be given a trauma alias upon arrival so we may not have information in the hospital directory that we are permitted to share, per HIPAA guidelines.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 2-2-12 – 4:45 p.m.

Regarding patients received at Shands at UF from Sunday’s multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75: Five remain in the hospital. All others have been treated and released. Because of privacy laws, we are unable to release specific patient information at this time. If the news media has the name of a patient, and they are listed in our directory, we can look up that patient to provide a one-word condition report. UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 2-1-12 – 4 p.m.

No changes in the patient numbers from the multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 on Sunday were recorded Wednesday. Eight patients remain in the hospital of the 22 who have received care. Further information will be reported as it becomes available.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 1-31-12 – 5 p.m.

A more comprehensive review Tuesday of patients received from the multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 on Sunday shows that 19 patients were received Sunday morning at the Shands Critical Care Center. Later Sunday afternoon, two walk-in patients were treated. On Monday, the Shands Critical Care Center received one patient from a different hospital. Of those 22 patients, 14 have been released. Eight patients remain in the hospital. Look for more information as it becomes available Wednesday.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 1-30-12 – 4:30 p.m.

Regarding patients received at Shands from Sunday’s multi-vehicle accident: Five patients admitted through the Level I Trauma Center remain in the hospital. One patient, admitted through the Emergency Room, also remains. An additional patient involved in the accident, transferred to Shands from another hospital, remains. Look for more information as it becomes available Tuesday.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 1-30-12 – 11 a.m.

Regarding patients received at Shands from Sunday’s multi-vehicle accident: The six patients admitted through our Level I Trauma Center remain in the hospital. Three patients, admitted through the Emergency Room, also remain. An additional patient involved in the accident was transferred to Shands from another hospital. We will provide additional updates as new information becomes available.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 1-29-12 – 6:30 P.M.

Regarding patients received at Shands from today’s multi-vehicle accident: The six patients admitted through our Level I Trauma Center remain in the hospital. Three patients, admitted through the Emergency Room, also remain in the hospital. No other information is expected Sunday. Look for more information as it becomes available Monday.

UPDATE RE. PATIENTS 1-29-12 – 1:30 P.M.

Regarding patients received at Shands from today’s multi-vehicle accident: The six patients who were admitted through our Level I Trauma Center remain in the hospital. Of the 12 patients who came to us through our Emergency Room, four remain in the hospital.

Update re. PATIENTS 1-29-12 – 10:30 AM

As of 10:30 a.m. we have received one additional patient as a result of the multi-vehicle accident. We have now admitted six patients through our Level I Trauma Center and are treating 12 patients in the Emergency Department.

Just after 5 a.m. this morning, Shands was notified of a multi-vehicle accident with multiple victims expected at Shands Critical Care Center. We activated our emergency response process to ensure adequate staffing to accommodate the incoming patients.

As of 8:30 a.m. we have admitted six patients through our Level I Trauma Center and we are treating 11 patients in the Emergency Department.

We are unable to release specific patient information at this time. If the news media has the name of a patient, they can call Public Relations and we can look up that patient to provide a one-word condition report. Please note that it is customary for trauma patients to be given a trauma alias upon arrival so we may not have information in the hospital directory that we are permitted to share, per HIPAA guidelines.

We will provide another update on the Web at 10 a.m.

At this time, we are prepared in case we receive additional patients.

In emerging critical events, our Level I trauma center and ShandsCair emergency transport teams are on standby and able to mobilize immediately to care for multiple trauma and emergency patients. We work closely with local and regional first-responder agencies throughout an event to ensure the best possible patient care and community response.
