Harvey Ward, Ken Cornell and David Nelson, M.D.

Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward, Alachua County Commissioner Ken Cornell and UF Health President David Nelson sign their names to a banner that will be digitized, engraved and displayed at UF Health Urgent Care Center – Eastside.

UF Health officials, local government officials and community leaders came together Thursday, Nov. 30 to celebrate the new UF Health Urgent Care Center – Eastside. The facility is anticipated to open in East Gainesville in mid-2024.

Attendees added their signature to an art canvas that will be digitized and engraved on an aluminum plaque. The plaque will display in the lobby of the facility.

The 10,000-square-foot center will feature eight examination rooms, two procedure rooms, an X-ray area and a community room. It will also be open seven days a week with hours extending into the evening.

“People can receive care without having to take time off from their jobs,” said David Nelson, senior vice president for health affairs at UF and president of UF Health. “In addition to the health services offered, we anticipate the center will serve as a catalyst for additional development and growth. This is truly an exciting time for us all.”

In addition to Nelson, speakers included the Rev. Deb Hepburn, UF Health Shands chaplain; Lakesha Butler, Pharm.D., UF Health chief culture officer; Ken Cornell, Alachua County commission; Harvey Ward, City of Gainesville mayor; Traci d’Auguste, UF Health Shands COO; and Marvin Dewar, M.D., UF Health Physicians chief medical officer.
