UF Health Shands Hospital has been recognized among the nation’s best cancer hospitals, according to the America’s Best Cancer Hospitals 2023 list by Newsweek and Statista.

Among nine Florida hospitals that made the list, UF Health Shands Hospital was in the top three. Nationwide, UF Health Shands Hospital was ranked among the top 60 of 175 hospitals on the list, released online June 28.

The America’s Best Cancer Hospitals ranking is new this year. The underlying data analysis is based on three data sources: a nationwide online survey of health care professionals and hospital managers; hospital quality metrics; and results from patient experience surveys.

“This ranking is a wonderful honor for our cancer program and our team of outstanding cancer physicians at UF Health,” said Merry Jennifer Markham, M.D., FACP, FASCO, chief and the Robert E. and Roselee S. Wheeler Professor of Medicine in the division of hematology and oncology in the UF College of Medicine, who also serves as associate director for medical affairs at the UF Health Cancer Center. “It reflects the excellence in innovative and personalized cancer care we provide to our patients each day. This national recognition also speaks to the expertise and dedication of all the clinicians, nurses, support staff and leadership at UF Health who are committed to delivering superb cancer care for the patients and families we care for. Coming as the UF Health Cancer Center has achieved designation from the National Cancer Institute, this news will add to our momentum as we strive to reach new heights with our cancer programs so that we can better serve our patients.”

The UF Health Cancer Center received designation from the National Cancer Institute, or NCI, this month, becoming the 72nd NCI-Designated Cancer Center in the United States and the only NCI-Designated Cancer Center based at a public university in Florida.
