Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Our Physiatrists specialize in the management and rehabilitation of head injuries that occur as a consequence of traumatic injuries (such as falls, motor vehicle accidents) or disease (anoxia to brain, stroke, central nervous system neiplasms). Moreover, our faculty also treat sports concussion (hits to head or contact with object, person or ground or sudden jolts in motion). We offer non-surgical management of neurological symptoms due to concussions and brain injury. For patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI), Physiatrists focus on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of individuals with varying severity levels of brain injury such as stroke, CNS neoplasms, anoxic brain injury, and other brain disorders. Special attention is paid to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of related medical, physical, psychosocial, and vocational disabilities and complications over the lifetime of a patient. For patients with concussion, Physiatrists often work with physical and occupational therapists and, together, can provide short-term and long-term treatments to help patients improve balance, vision, headaches, and cognition.
