About me

I am Alex Michael Parker, a cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure and heart transplantation. I currently serve as an Associate Professor in the University of Florida Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and serve as the program director for our ACGME accredited Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship.

My post graduate training took place at the University of Virginia, where I completed my residency in internal medicine, followed by fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

I am board-certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. My clinical focus includes the management of patients with heart failure, ventricular assistance devices (VADs), heart transplants and complex cardiomyopathies, such as cardiac amyloidosis and peripartum cardiomyopathy. I developed the UF CardioMEMS program where we can monitor cardiac pressures remotely, to reduce the risk of hospitalization.

I am actively involved in multiple national clinical trials for patients with advanced heart disease. In 2024 my research team received the Heart Failure Collaboratory Top Research Site award at the American Heart Association annual meeting. I have published over 50 peer reviewed manuscripts in the realm of cardiovascular disease.

I also regularly teach medical students, residents and fellows, in addition to serving on national committees focused on heart failure, and cardiovascular medical education. In recognition of my teaching expertise, I have been awarded the College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher award in 2022 and again in 2024, as well as the C Richard Conti Excellence in Teaching Award in 2020.

I’m committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care while helping each of my patients better understand and manage their heart condition.
