About me

My name is Allison Rickman, MS, CGC, and I am a genetic counselor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Congenital Heart Center. I received my bachelor’s degree in biology from The Ohio State University. I completed my genetic counseling training at Indiana University where I received my master’s degree in medical and molecular genetics.

I decided to become a genetic counselor early in my first semester of college. I was interested in genetics but unsure of how to pursue this as a career other than being in medicine. However, with a few introductions to the genetic counseling profession, I discovered this was truly my dream career. I am able to pursue my interest in genetics while caring for others.

I have specialized knowledge in many facets of genetics including: inherited hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, inherited dilated cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, long QT syndrome, brugada syndrome, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, and familial hypercholesterolemia. I am a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.

In my free time, I enjoy knitting and reading. I am new to Gainesville and excited to explore the town and surrounding area.
