My bio

I am director of the University of Florida Health Ascension Sacred Heart Adult Kidney Transplant Program and a clinical associate professor in the UF Division of Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery. Prior to joining UF Health, I served as an associate professor of surgery and transplantation at the University of Virginia. There, I performed kidney and pancreas transplants and was part of the organ procurement team, where I assisted with multi-organ retrievals.

I earned my medical degree from Hacettepe University Medical School and completed a general surgery residency at Gazi University, both in Ankara, Turkey. I went on to complete an organ transplant fellowship at Harvard Medical School. During my time in Boston, I worked as a research fellow in the Harvard Medical School Division of Organ Transplant. Thereafter, I pursued a doctorate in immunology at the Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University, followed by four transplant fellowships at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Ohio State University College of Medicine, the University Hospitals of Geneva in Switzerland and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

I have contributed to over 100 peer-reviewed articles and multiple textbooks. My areas of research interest include developing software programs in organ transplant, genetic polymorphism therapeutic drug monitoring and immunologically high-risk patients. I am affiliated with various organizations, such as the Transplantation Society, Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
