My bio
I work as a fellowship-trained Assistant Professor in the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida. I am honored to work as a Surgeon of Excellence at UF Health's Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery (COEMIG) and Complex Endometriosis Care (COECEC).
I conduct research in endometriosis and adenomyosis because they are prevalent conditions that are under-recognized and understudied and their painful symptoms are commonly dismissed as “normal” during adolescence. Specifically, my research interests involve the influence of the microbiome and mitochondrial dysfunction in endometriosis and adenomyosis. Given the lack of medical treatment options combined with risks of non-treatment that include chronic pelvic pain, kidney failure, bowel obstruction, and infertility, improved diagnostic and preventive measures are urgently needed.
In my free time, I enjoy restorative and wellness practices such as meditation, yoga, and weight training. I enjoy dancing and preparing home-cooked meals with my husband to share with family and friends. I was born in Cuba, and I am fluent in Spanish and happy to accommodate the needs of Spanish-speaking patients.
As a clinician scientist, my priority is to provide access to clinical trials and individualized patient-centered care that maximizes my patients' wellness, function, and quality of life.
