Dr. Allen is a Clinical Associate Professor and medical director in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Born in the Sunshine State, he went to a small NAIA university in Kansas City, Mo., to pursue his football career, but he realized after several injuries while playing quarterback (his 5-foot-10 stature wasn’t going to get him to the NFL) to pursue medicine. After graduating from Avila University with a major in biology, he attended Florida State University College of Medicine. He then made the move to Gainesville for his emergency medicine residency here at the University of Florida. He has been a faculty member since 2013.
Gainesville has been home to him ever since. After finishing his residency and final year as chief resident, Dr. Allen was hired on as faculty in 2013 and has held many leadership positions including Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, Medical Director, Fellowship Program Director, and Director of the Medical Student Research Program. His major interests are the ED Administrative fellowship, observation medicine, emergency department quality and throughput innovation, and cardiac biomarkers research.
