About me
As the Eugene Jewett Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, I currently serve as the chief of the University of Florida Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology and director of the Orthopaedic Oncology Laboratory. I am also the chief medical officer for UF Health and senior associate dean for clinical affairs in the UF College of Medicine.
I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia before receiving my medical degree from UF in 1989. I went on to complete my residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Colorado, as well as fellowships in orthopaedic oncology and research at the University of Chicago. From 1997 to 2002, I served as the director of musculoskeletal oncology at the University of Colorado. I returned to UF in 2003 to work in the department of orthopaedics, where I am now a tenured professor.
My clinical research and practice focus on treating bone and soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities and pelvis in both children and adults. I have authored 75 scientific manuscripts and numerous book chapters. Additionally, I’ve assumed the role of principal investigator on R21 and R01 awards from the NIH/NCI, supporting my work on intra-tumoral heterogeneity in osteosarcoma and its relationship to tumor-initiating cells and reversible malignant potential. I have served as an officer in the Connective Tissue Oncology Society and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society. I am a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and have served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
