Christopher Edwards, MD

My name is Chris Edwards, MD, and I joined the UF Department of Anesthesiology in 2018 as an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology. I earned my medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, completed anesthesiology residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. I’m a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, with additional board certification in Pediatric Anesthesiology.

My interests within anesthesiology include malignant hyperthermia, perioperative blood management, and resident education.

Since 2019, I’ve assisted callers throughout North America as a hotline consultant for the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States. I particularly enjoy speaking to medical audiences regarding optimal management of intraoperative malignant hyperthermia crises, and have authored a number of chapters and publications on this topic.

As the pediatric anesthesiology representative for the UF Health Pediatric Trauma Program, I developed UF Health's pediatric massive transfusion protocol and helped our institution achieve Level 1 pediatric trauma center designation from the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, I’m the principal investigator for UF’s involvement in the Pediatric Craniofacial Collaborative Group, a multi-institution collaborative that seeks to improve outcomes for children undergoing craniofacial surgery.

I was awarded the Exemplary Teacher Award by the UF College of Medicine in 2020 and 2023. In addition to working with anesthesiology residents and fellows, I’ve had the privilege of directing the anesthesiology training of UF's oral and maxillofacial surgery residents since 2019.
