About me

I am an assistant professor and associate trauma medical director in the University of Florida Division of Acute Care Surgery. I am also part of the abdominal wall reconstruction, fistula and hernia service team. I specialize in critical care surgery and my areas of interest, include gastrointestinal fistula, hernias, traumatic injury and ventral hernia repair. I am also interested in nutrition and most recently completed a nutrition fellowship in 2022.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio and completed my general surgery residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine, where I was recognized as the Distinguished Resident Dedicated to Teaching. Subsequently, I completed fellowships in surgical critical care and acute care surgery.

Prior to joining the UF Department of Surgery faculty, I was a peer-selected member of the UF Health Department of Surgery education/program evaluation committee, as well as the quality improvement committee. In addition to my involvement, I also completed other training programs such as Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

In 2013, I was the recipient of the Collaborative Research Forum Scholarship at the 5th Annual Collaborative Research Forum in Phoenix. The same year, I was awarded the Shock Society Travel Grant for New Investigators at the 37th Annual Conference on Shock in San Diego. Additionally, I have delivered multiple presentations, my most recent being the Diagnosis and Management of Acute Pulmonary Embolism.
