My bio

Hello, my name is Frederick Fricker and I am a board-certified in in general pediatrics and pediatric cardiology and work in the Congenital Heart Center here at UF Health. I led the pediatric cardiology division at the University of Florida College of Medicine from my arrival in 1995 until 2014. I helped establish the UF Health Congenital Heart Center in 2006, serving as its medical director through 2014, and watched the center become one of the top congenital heart programs in the country.

I received my medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed my pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

My clinical interests focus on the nonsurgical aspects of pediatric heart and lung transplantation and on treating patients with pulmonary hypertension. My research has focused on immune-suppression strategies after heart transplantation in children. I have been lucky enough to travel in and outside of the United States to share my knowledge and experience with pediatric heart and heart-lung transplantation.

I have a major interest in global health, and have been appointed as co-director of the pediatric resident global health track at the UF College of Medicine. I also serve on the board of directors of Amazon Vision ministries; review medical records for Little Hearts Medical on Chinese orphans with congenital heart disease pending adoption by U.S. families and have participated in cardiology/cardiovascular surgical missions sponsored by the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) in the West Bank and Gaza.

I also serve on the Medical Selection Committee of the UF College of Medicine. My memberships include the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Cardiology; American Pediatrics Society; International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation; and the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Diseases in the Young.
