My bio
My name is Dr. Henrique Kallas. I am an associate professor in the University of Florida College of Medicine, and am double board-certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine. My expertise is in geriatric medicine, and I’m dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for my patients; my promise to my patients is to be a good listener and to help them reach their health goals. I come from a family of physicians – my father, three brothers and my sister are physicians in Brazil – and I was inspired to become a geriatric medicine doctor by my love for my grandparents – whose fascinating stories I never tired of hearing – and by my desire to apply science to the process of healthy aging. Some of my clinical interests within geriatric medicine include preventive care, gait and balance impairment, memory impairment, osteoporosis and androgen deficiency.
I earned my medical degree from Doutor José Antônio Garcia Coutinho College of Medical Sciences in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and completed my residency in internal medicine at The New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in Flushing, New York. My fellowship training in geriatric medicine was completed at UF Health Shands here in Gainesville, Florida, and I have served in several leadership roles in geriatric medicine at UF Health, including as the chief of the division of geriatric medicine and as the medical director of Senior Care in the department of aging and geriatric research. I am currently the medical director of the Douglas Williams Executive Health Program at UF and Oak Hammock retirement community in Gainesville.
In my time away from patient care, I enjoy resistance training and aerobic exercise, and I am a multilingual linguaphile – a person who loves to learn new languages. I am fluent in Portuguese, French, Spanish and German.
