About me
My name is Jessica Ponen, and I am a registered nurse at UF Health. My journey in nursing began with a nursing diploma covering general nursing, psychiatry, community health and midwifery from KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing in South Africa. Over the years, I've continued to expand my expertise, earning a bachelor of science in nursing administration and education from the University of South Africa and a master of science in education from Walden University. Currently licensed by the Florida Board of Nursing, I specialize in cardiac rehabilitation, where I have the privilege of combining my passion for teaching with my commitment to patient care. Educating patients on maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle is not just a job—it's a mission close to my heart.
Outside of my professional endeavors, I strive for balance and fulfillment in all aspects of my life. I find joy in faith-based activities, volunteering and staying active through exercise. These pursuits contribute to my holistic approach to well-being, ensuring that I am not only caring for others but also nurturing my own spirit.
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue my journey in nursing by pursuing a doctorate of nursing, furthering my knowledge and impact in the field. Being able to speak Afrikaans, I bring a rich cultural perspective to my practice, enhancing my ability to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds.
