My bio

My name is John Santiago, MD, and I am an assistant professor in the UF Department of Anesthesiology. I am also the associate chair for systems integration. I joined the department in the Division of Multispecialty Anesthesiology in 2020.

I earned my medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and completed a general surgery internship at St. Joseph/Columbus Hospital in Chicago. I completed my anesthesiology residency here at the University of Florida. Prior to my residency, I completed the U.S. Naval API/Flight School in Pensacola Florida. As an active-duty flight surgeon, I was forward deployed to Japan.

Before joining the department, I was the chief of the anesthesia department at Northern Virginia Permanente Medical Group and the medical director for the Tysons Corner Ambulatory Surgery Center. I also previously worked as a clinical instructor and management fellow at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where I researched IT solutions for perioperative medical management, national health care policy implementation, and pharmacy access for developing nations.
