About me

My name is Joshua Sappenfield, MD, and I am an associate professor in the UF Department of Anesthesiology. I joined the department as an assistant professor in 2013 and am in the Divisions of Liver & Transplant Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. I earned my BSE in biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa and my medical degree from the University of Nebraska. I completed my anesthesiology residency at the University of Maryland and a fellowship in trauma anesthesiology at the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

My specialties are trauma and liver disease. As clinical faculty, I use simulation to teach a variety of different subjects such as basic and difficult airway management, technical proficiency with the fiberoptic scope, central venous access, and ACLS in the operating room. I’m also chair for the editorial committee of the Trauma Anesthesiology Society. I’m a very meticulous physician and couldn’t imagine a career doing anything else.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy taking care of farm animals and running races.
