Kiran Upadhyay MD, is an associate professor of pediatrics and is a board-certified pediatric nephrologist. He maintains board certification in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology. After completing his fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center, George Washington University in 2011, he held academic appointments at two other universities. He joined University of Florida in the Division of Pediatric Nephrology in 2013. He is the medical director of pediatric kidney transplantation program at University of Florida, which is UNOS-accredited and recognized as a center of excellence in the State of Florida, receiving referrals from not only the Tristate area but also from throughout the United States. UF Health Pediatric Kidney Transplant Center is a "Designated" center of CIGNA LifeSOURCE Transplant Network, only one of two programs in Florida to achieve this distinction. It is also a "Medicaid Designated Transplant Center", Blue Cross Blue Shield’s "Blue Distinction Center" and included in "Humana National Transplant Network" in the State of Florida. These designations recognize centers that deliver quality specialty pediatric kidney transplant care based on measures for patient safety and health outcomes, as well as transplant-specific quality metrics- including transplant volume and outcomes, consumer access, facility accreditation and cost.
His other areas of expertise include various modes of dialysis and plasmapheresis, nephrotic syndrome, hypertension, as well as management of children and adolescents with all types of renal pathologies. He is certified in biostatistics from University of California San Diego in 2020. He serves in several local, national and international panel, boards, associations and committees. He is also in the editorial and reviewer board of several journals, including academic editor for Wiley published “Case Reports in Transplantation”. He is also an expert academic contributor for "BMJ (British Medical Journal) Best Practice", which is ranked as one of the world’s best online evidence based, clinical decision support tools, used by healthcare professionals in more than 100 countries.
