About me
My name is Lauren Berkow, MD, and I joined the UF Department of Anesthesiology as an associate professor of anesthesiology in 2016. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and my medical degree from the University of Maryland. I completed my surgical residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and at Nassau County Medical Center. I also completed an anesthesiology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and earned a Business of Medicine Graduate Certificate from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
I’m now a professor of anesthesiology and chief of the Division of Neuroanesthesiology. I also serve as the director of anesthesia supplies and equipment. One of my clinical interests and major professional focuses is airway management, and I have held leadership roles in the Society for Airway Management for several years. I’m also passionate about sustainability and reducing waste in the operating room, and am the UF Health Shands Clinical Sustainability Champion and co-chair of the UF Health Shands Sustainability Committee.
I grew up in a medically oriented family and was exposed to the medical field at a young age. While I initially pursued surgery as a career, anesthesiologists I encountered as a surgical resident convinced me that anesthesiology was a better fit, and they were right. Outside of medicine, I enjoy travel, cooking and reading.
