My bio

My name is Nash Moawad, MD, MS, and I am the Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) in the department of obstetrics and gynecology. I specialize in laparoscopic, robotic and hysteroscopic surgery, particularly for excision of advanced endometriosis and the treatment of uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding and chronic pelvic pain. I also utilize minimally invasive techniques for conservative fertility sparing and fertility promoting surgery.

Unlike the traditional pathway of developing an interest in a subspecialty in residency training, my interest and passion for MIGS early in my career led me to pursue a second residency in obstetrics and gynecology. I am always fascinated with how MIGS enables me to solve the most complex surgical conditions for women, using the least invasive techniques and delivering excellent outcomes with low complication rates. The intricate anatomy of the pelvis and reproductive system, the diverse pathology and breadth of procedures in the field and the constant advances in surgical technology make it an exciting and unique specialty. Additionally, the privilege to collaborate with women on many debilitating conditions – such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain and infertility – and the ability to have a positive impact on them and their families, is unparalleled.

Patient autonomy and shared decision-making are key principles in my practice. I treat every patient as I would treat a family member. I follow a methodical and patient-centered approach to design a unique care plan to help them achieve their goals. As a physician, it is my goal to increase awareness of pelvic pain and endometriosis while helping women seek expert care at centers specialized in these conditions. My current research projects revolve around endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain with the goal of finding less invasive solutions to diagnose endometriosis.

I am honored to serve on the board of directors for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL); the largest gynecologic surgery organization in the world. I also chair the Steering Committee for EMIGS, a new standardized test being deployed for obstetrics and gynecology residents in the United States.
