About me

Hello, my name is Dr. Raymond. I am an assistant professor of surgery in the division of pediatric surgery at the University of Florida. I received my bachelor’s degree and medical degree from the University of Florida, then continued my training at UF with a residency in general surgery, where I was the academic chief resident. I followed this with a pediatric surgery fellowship at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California.

Since a young age, I have been driven by a strong desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. The intricacies and complexities of the human body have always fascinated me, and I was particularly drawn to a medical career and the field of surgery because of its potential to drastically improve the health of others. During my medical schooling and training, I had the opportunity to work with pediatric patients, and their resilience left a lasting impression on me. Witnessing the life-changing impact of surgical interventions on the lives of children and their families inspired me to dedicate my career to caring for this vulnerable population.

As a pediatric surgeon, my primary goal is to provide the highest quality of care to my patients and their families. I aim to offer compassionate and evidence-based treatment to these unique and special patients. In addition, I am dedicated to advancing the field of pediatric surgery through ongoing education, research and innovation.

My current research interests include the application of robotic-assisted surgery in the pediatric population. I believe that utilizing advanced technology can improve surgical precision, minimize invasiveness and enhance patient outcomes. Furthermore, I have interest in investigations involving clinical outcomes following pediatric surgery to identify areas for improvement and optimize patient care. I am also involved in medical surgical education.

I am very proud to have been the 2021 recipient of the UF Department of Surgery Edward R. Woodward Surgical Resident’s Award and the UF Department of Surgery Hugh A. Walters Humanitarian Award. I’m also proud to have completed a 2017 Surgical Infection Society Clinical Research Training Fellowship.

I have special expertise in gastroschisis repair, gallstones, duodenal atresia, pectus excavatum repair, Wilms tumor, inguinal hernia repair, appendicitis, esophageal atresia, ovarian cysts, robotic surgery, pyloric stenosis in infants and necrotizing enterocolitis.

I want my patients and their families to know that I am committed to providing them the best care. I understand the importance of clear communication and will take the time to listen to their concerns, answer their questions and involve them in the decision-making process. I am dedicated to ensuring the well-being of my patients throughout their surgical journey.

I enjoy staying active and find running to be an excellent way to clear my mind and maintain physical fitness. Nature has a calming effect on me, and I love exploring the outdoors, whether it's hiking in the mountains or walking along the coast. Additionally, traveling has allowed me to gain new perspectives and appreciate the diversity of our world.
