My bio
My name is Svitlana Smolenchuk, MD, PhD, and I joined the department of anesthesiology in 2022 with a focus on multispecialty anesthesiology. I received my medical degree from Luhansk State Medical University in Ukraine, where I also completed a residency in pediatrics and a doctoral degree in human anatomy. My PhD thesis was on skeletal morphogenesis in chronic hyperthermia.
I am now an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology in Gainesville, FL. Anesthesiology is a challenging and yet rewarding field with exposure to almost all clinical areas. Being a perioperative physician places an anesthesiologist in a unique role that requires technical skills to perform procedures, medical knowledge to problem solve, and communication skills to help patients get through the anxiety of surgery. I treat my patients the way I'd like my family members to be treated. Practicing anesthesiology is a great way to make a difference in the lives of others.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my recently grown family. I also love cooking desserts and traveling.
