Our approach to care

Patients with chronic conditions will need access to therapy throughout their lives. Although many conditions are diagnosed in childhood, at UF Health Rehab Centers, we realize the important role therapy plays through all life stages. We specialize in safe, effective and age appropriate care from birth to young adulthood. We will work with you to develop a therapy plan that is appropriate for each life stage. Therapy is always focused on the achievement of short-term and long-term goals that are influenced by your child’s development and progress.

Each life stage is typically accompanied by new expectations. We will plan therapy to help your child meet goals. To us, success means your child is thriving in your family, your home and your community. We hope to work with you and your child from infancy to young adulthood to meet focused therapy goals.

Episodes of care

Determining the right program and the right amount of therapy to achieve the best outcomes is important. Research suggests that bursts of focused therapy can be an effective way to achieve goals.

There are many things to consider when planning therapy, such as the age and developmental stage of the child, family goals in addition to the level of engagement and motivation of the child and family. Your therapist will work with you to consider these factors and establish the right length and frequency of therapy to meet your goals.

An episode of care:

  • Is initiated by the family
  • May occur many times over the course of your child’s development
  • Begins with a defined period of time for therapy and evaluation of progress toward goals
  • Begins and ends with outcome measures to evaluate your child’s progress
  • May change in length, frequency, timing and type
  • Is focused on meeting goals that you have identified as priorities
  • Instills confidence in you and your child to manage your child’s goals in the home and community, where it matters most
