Injuries Treated
People engaged in endurance exercise can experience as wide array of overuse injuries including knee, hip, ankle, leg and spine injuries. Since these injuries can interfere with exercise participation an evaluation should be performed as soon as possible to facilitate optimal recovery. Common injuries we treat at the UF Health Running Medicine Clinic are; plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, "runner’s knee", shin splints, hip pain, ankle pain and shin splints. Through the evaluation, biomechanical and training errors are also addressed so that the runner can return to regular running safely.
Services Offered
- Comprehensive injury evaluation
- Biomechanical analysis of gait and muscle imbalances that may have caused or pre-dispose to injury
- Gait studies to optimize running technique
- Orthotic evaluation and prescription
- Comprehensive rehabilitation program
- Training advice to assist in safe return to running
What we can tell you:
- Foot striking pattern and ground reaction forces
- Gait asymmetries
- Joint motion from 3 planes to identify musculoskeletal deficits for injury prevention and injury healing
- Clinical interpretations and recommendations for reducing injury or repairing current injury
Our testing includes:
- Brief functional screen and physical history, running on a force-plated treadmill, 3D motion capture, live video for retraining if requested, shoe evaluation, review of appropriate exercise and program modification, physical therapy referral if needed.
- A high-speed video will be filmed during running from several views. A complete report of joint kinematics and body segment rotations and rotational speeds will be generated.
- From our extensive databank of over 1000 runners, your data will be compared to other runners of similar age, sex and foot strike type
- A full report, consult and a flash drive with video copies of your running motions will be provided.
