Practicum and Internship Opportunities

PALS THRIVE is involved in providing individual, family, and group counseling services, outreach, prevention, and educational services within the schools. Currently, PALS THRIVE is involved in the following schools:

• A. Quinn Jones Center
• Buchholz High School
• Eastside High School
• Fort Clarke Middle School
• Gainesville High School
• Kanapaha Middle School
• Professional Academies Magnet at Loften High School
• Saint Francis Catholic Academy
• Westwood Middle School

Inpatient units

As an intern, you will also have the opportunity to advance your counseling skills within the Psychiatric Inpatient Units at UF Health Psychiatric Hospital. Interns will usually begin their internship in one of the schools and may advance in subsequent semesters to work within the units. Interns will have the opportunity to work with children, adults, and families.

Supervision

Each intern will receive one hour of individual supervision and one hour of group supervision. Group Supervision is mandatory and is held on Wednesdays from 9am-10am. When you are placed at your site (school or unit) you will also receive a PALS site host, not to be confused with your individual supervisor, which is your main supervisor. The purpose of the PALS site host is to provide assistance when your individual supervisor is unavailable (usually a school counselor at the schools or the therapist on the unit). You will have access to assistance no matter where you are. Also, your individual supervisor is on-call during the work day and can be reached by text or phone call.

Who can apply?

A Masters or Doctoral level student in the Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or Social Work field. A one semester commitment is required. We have had students from various schools including the University of Florida, Florida State University, Saint Leo University, Liberty University, University of Central Florida, and others.
