  • Cough/congestion (no fever or medical history of asthma)

How it works

Virtual visits work from most smartphones, tablets or PCs, as long as there is a working camera, microphone and speaker. Each video chat requires a high-speed internet connection, via either cellular data or Wi-Fi. The technology is similar to FaceTime or Skype but has additional security measures to protect the privacy of our patients and their families.

Pediatric specialty care

Virtual visits are now available with many of our world-renowned pediatric specialists. This means you can get expert care closer to home. Some specialists will connect with you at a UF Health location closer to your home, while others will connect with you while you’re in the comfort of your own home.

Frequently asked questions

Will my insurance cover my child’s virtual visit?

Many, but not all, insurance plans cover these visits. We recommend that you contact your insurance provider to ask if telehealth visits are covered.

What if it is unclear if my insurance will cover this visit? We will first bill your insurance to determine if they will pay for the visit and provide your insurer with all information they may require to make a decision. If your insurance will not pay for the visit, you will be responsible for the charge.

What if I am not sure my child’s condition can be treated via virtual visit?

Please call UF Health Pediatrics at (352) 265-2222 for primary care assistance or UF Health Pediatric Specialties at (352) 265-7337 for specialty care assistance. We will be happy to help in determining if you qualify.

Does my child need to be present for the visit, or can I connect with the provider on my own?

Your child must be present for the visit.

Can my child be treated via virtual visit when I’m outside of my home?

Yes. As long as your child is physically present in Florida during the visit, your child can be seen from anywhere.

How long is the visit?

Most primary care visits last approximately 10 to 20 minutes, depending upon your child’s condition. Most specialty care visits last 20 to 30 minutes, depending upon your child's conditions.

What if my child needs medication?

Your provider can submit an electronic prescription to the pharmacy of your choice.

Where will the records of this visit be kept?

Records will be kept in our electronic medical record and available to you via MyChart, just like your records for other visits.

Is the video recorded and stored?

No, we will not record video of the visit. However, your provider may take a screenshot if necessary, but only with your permission.

I have other questions — who can help?

Please call UF Health Pediatrics at (352) 265-2222 for primary care assistance or UF Health Pediatric Specialties at (352) 265-7337 for specialty care assistance. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.
