UF cardiovascular surgeons at the UF Health Shands Transplant Center performed their first heart transplant in 1985. Since then, the heart transplant team has performed more than 1000 heart transplants.
The program offers a full range of cardiac transplantation for children and adults. The pediatric heart transplant program includes neonatal, newborn and infant heart transplants.
As part of the UF Health academic medical center, the UF Health Shands Transplant Center is able to offer a full range of transplant programs. UF Health Science Center faculty conduct research and clinical trials to develop advanced heart transplant techniques.
