For more than 30 years, Gary has been involved in academic health system communications, beginning his career as a student assistant at the University of Florida. He has made stops at public and private institutions, including the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the University of Louisville. Before joining UF Health in December 2022, he served as the associate vice president of marketing and communications for USA Health in Mobile, Ala. He has significant experience in media relations, issue/crisis management, branding and more.

Gary earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida and his master’s degree in public administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He served for a decade on the steering committee for the Association of American Medical Colleges/Group on Institutional Advancement, including serving as the group’s chair. He has won varying awards, including one from the AAMC/GIA.
