David S. Guzick, M.D., Ph.D. - Authors - UF Health

DAVID S. GUZICK, M.D., PH.D., is senior vice president for health affairs and president, UF Health. He also serves as board chair for both UF Health and UF Health Jacksonville. Since his appointment on July 1, 2009, Dr. Guzick has focused on promoting close and trusting collaborations between Health Science Center faculty and hospital administration as the principal means of ensuring success in all three missions of UF Health, the University of Florida Academic Health Center. He has emphasized quality and safety in patient care as Job 1, and promoting excellence in clinical and translational research at UF to complement existing strength in biomedical science, including construction of an academic home for clinical and translational science. From 2002-2009, Dr. Guzick was dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y. In addition to serving as dean, he was principal investigator for Rochester’s NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award. From 1995 until 2002, Dr. Guzick served as the Henry A. Thiede professor and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from New York University as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program of the National Institutes of Health. Following a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, he completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. An internationally known expert in reproductive endocrinology, Dr. Guzick was inducted into the Society of Scholars at the Johns Hopkins University in 2004 as a national and international leader in that field. In 2008, Dr. Guzick was elected to the Institute of Medicine, one of the nation’s highest honors in the fields of medicine and health.
