My bio

My name is Aditya Shirali, MD, and I am a clinical assistant professor with the University of Florida Department of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and graduated from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York, New York, where I was awarded the Dr. Arthur H. Aufses Senior Prize in Surgery. Following medical school, I completed a general surgery residency at the University of California, Los Angeles as well as a postdoctoral research fellowship at UCLA in the Broad Stem Cell Research Center. I then completed comprehensive fellowship training focused on thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Surgical Endocrinology Fellowship Program. I became interested in endocrine surgery because of the multidisciplinary nature of the field and the ability to form meaningful, long-term relationships with my patients. As a surgeon, I believe we achieve the best outcomes when we form a partnership to provide a patient-centered approach to the management of endocrine surgical diseases.

My clinical interests focus on the practice and advancement of endocrine surgery, particularly through innovative and minimally invasive techniques. I treat benign and malignant thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disease, including Graves’ disease, thyroid cancer, primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, nonfunctional and functional adrenal masses, adrenocortical carcinoma and more. I also conduct research that not only focuses on improving our understanding of the molecular profile of endocrine cancers at all stages, but also aims to provide personalized, patient-centered surgical care and postoperative therapies. I teach courses at the University of Florida College of Medicine and serve on the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons’ Endocrine Surgery Identity Committee. I am also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Thyroid Association and the American College of Surgeons.
