My bio

Francis Moore, Jr., MD, is a Professor in the University of Florida College of Medicine's Department of Surgery.

Dr. Moore attended Harvard University for both his undergraduate and medical degrees. Following medical school, he interned and completed his residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in the Department of Surgery. He also completed a trauma and burn research fellowship in Harvard Medical School’s Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology. He later served as chief resident surgeon for both West Roxbury VA Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

After his post-graduate training, Dr. Moore was appointed to the faculty at Harvard Medical School and to the surgical staff at Brigham and Women’s. He was P.I. of a P50 Trauma Center Grant for 17 years. In 2000, he became the Division Chief of General and GI Surgery, and in 2004, Professor of Surgery. In 2010, he was honored with the Moore Chair in Surgery. He concluded his career as the Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Moore has served as President of Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the Boston Surgical Society, and the New England Surgical Society.

Dr. Moore has received multiple awards throughout his career including the Joseph Murray-Simon Simonian Award for Excellence in Research Mentoring and being recognized as one of America’s Top Doctors for Cancer. He is also a member of various professional organizations, including the American Thyroid Association, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and the American Surgical Association.
