My name is Greg Janelle, MD, and I joined the UF Department of Anesthesiology in 1999 as an assistant professor of anesthesiology. I received my bachelor’s and medical degrees from Boston University. I completed my internship in medicine and critical care, my residency in anesthesiology, and my fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesiology here at the University of Florida.

I’m currently a professor of anesthesiology and surgery and am also the interim chair for the Department of Anesthesiology. I’ve been with the University of Florida College of Medicine my entire career and have had the privilege of serving in many different roles and watching both the hospital and the department grow over the years.

I’ve been interested in anesthesiology as a specialty since early in my medical education. The process of administering anesthesia to a patient, monitoring their physiology while guiding them safely through a procedure, and then emerging them comfortably is a really incredible gift that we as anesthesiologists get to experience on a daily basis.

One of the my more interesting accomplishments was as a member of the NASA Medical Support Team. As a member of the team, I was able to participate in a number of simulations, launches, and landings to prepare and maintain medical readiness in the event of emergency situations. I’m proud to be a lifetime member of the Society of NASA Flight Surgeons.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing, tennis, walking, jogging, diving, skiing, the beach, traveling, and finding any opportunity I can to spend time with my family.
