About me
Jess DeLaune, MD, is an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the Malcolm Randall VA with a primary clinical focus of treating genitourinary malignancies. Dr. DeLaune’s research interests include medical education and addressing health care disparities in patients with sickle cell disease. He is also the Associate Program Director for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. DeLaune earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Florida State University and his medical degree from University of South Florida College of Medicine. At the USF College of Medicine Dr. DeLaune was given multiple awards for his academic and clinical excellence, including being awarded the Doctor’s Doctor Award by his peers.
He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, during which he also served as a chief resident and chief fellow. While in his training, Dr. DeLaune received multiple awards including the Timothy H. Smith Memorial Award for Excellence in Ambulatory Internal Medicine, a Teaching Excellence Award, the Craig Kitchens Award for fostering a collegial environment and the Peer Mentor Award.
Dr. DeLaune is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology. He is also a member of the Institutional Program Review Committee for UF Graduate Medical Education.
In his free time, Dr. DeLaune likes to spend time with his wife and kids and outdoors at local springs or trails. He also likes to run, cycle, travel and play/watch various sports.
