My bio
Dr. Schmidt is Professor of Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is faculty of the UF Pain Research and Interventional Center of Excellence. He is part of the Genomic Medicine Implementation: The Personalized Medicine Collaborative (IGNITE). He is a board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine since 1992. He has additional certifications in “Controlled Substance Management” by the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians and “Office-Based Treatment of Opioid Use Disorders” by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.
He has received numerous honors including induction into “The Best Doctors®” in America, "America's Top Family Doctors®", “Best Teacher Award”, and UF Health Shands Physician “Customer Service Award” winner. He is the founding director of the Chronic Pain Management Program at the UF Family Medicine Residency Program. He has been very active in medical student and resident education. He is mentor to several of our junior faculty, and has a heart for teaching.
He is a reviewer, editor, consulting and contributing medical staff for many medical journals. Dr. Schmidt has authored numerous books, instructional videos, book chapters, and journal articles. He has participated in many research grants and has delivered over three hundred international, national, regional, and statewide presentations. He is a physician evaluator for the Florida Cares & C.A.P. (Florida Comprehensive Assessment and Remediation Education Services Program & Competency Advancement Program). He was medical director of various Family Medicine clinics from 1992 until 2016. He continuous to be administratively active on various committees, as well as in his role as Program Director of the Chronic Pain Management Program at Main since 2013. He is also a volunteer physician for Alachua County’s We Care program and UF’s Equal Access Clinic, providing care for indigent populations.
