Physicians who practice in UF Health Shands facilities are leading the fight against heart disease with state-of-the-art diagnosis and advanced surgical and non-surgical techniques.
Heart failure occurs when the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. There may be a number of causes for this serious condition, and treatment depends on the type and stage of the disease. Early diagnosis can help those with heart failure live an active life.
Cardiologists at the UF Health Cardiology practice in our UF Health Heart & Vascular Hospital are board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of advanced heart failure. They work closely with UF Health cardiovascular surgeons, who share the same outpatient practice, to care for patients with heart failure and offer the latest in treatment options, including:
- Medical management
- Access to investigational mechanical support devices and pharmacologic agents
- Pacing and cardioverter-defibrillator device implantation and management
- Heart transplant
- Ventricular assist devices
A device that helps the heart pump blood from one of the main pumping chambers to the rest of your body or to the other side of the heart. These pumps may be implanted in your body or connected to a pump outside your body. - Heart Attack Recovery Program
The program provides heart attack patients one-on-one consultations with experts in heart and vascular care within 10 days of going home, giving patients and their families the tools to recover and help prevent a second heart attack. A specialized care team including a cardiologist, pharmacist, smoking cessation coach, and exercise physiologist will work together to put a strong strategy in place for recovery.
