PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency The Villages®

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at UF Health The Villages® Hospital is an ASHP accredited program emphasizing clinical pharmacy practice and its relationship to the total health system. The residency provides a framework for the practitioner to develop the skills necessary for providing pharmaceutical care in a variety of different health care settings.

About the pharmacy residency program

There are two pharmacy resident positions available to eligible candidates at UF Health The Villages® Hospital. This residency offers six required rotations and provides ample time for elective rotations in a variety of settings.

Longitudinal experiences

While a resident at UF Health The Villages® Hospital, each resident will:

  • Staff one evening shift per month, Staff approximately every third weekend and assigned holidays: one major (Christmas) and one minor (Labor day or Memorial day)
  • Daily multidisciplinary rounding
  • Conduct a Medication Use Evaluation (MUE)
  • MUE Poster presentation at UF Health Shands Hospital and ASHP Midyear Conference
  • Create and present two formal, ACPE-accredited CE’s
  • Complete a research project. Project must receive prior approval and must be in publishable form upon completion of the residency
  • Present longitudinal research at the Florida Residency Conference
  • Layered learning, assist in precepting APPE pharmacy students
  • UF College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate
  • Participate in Code Blue response services and obtain ACLS, BLS, PALS certification
  • Decentralized (Unit Based) Clinical Pharmacist experience completing Pharmacokinetic, Coumadin, TPN and Glycemic consults
  • Participate on a Pharmacy Department Committee
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Director of Pharmacy and other preceptors

Stipend and benefits

  • The resident receives a $48,000 stipend
  • A total of 26 days of Paid Leave:
    • 10 days of paid time off (PTO)
    • 9 days of Professional leave for interviews and attendance at professional meetings (ASHP Midyear- 4 days, FRC- 2 days, Interviews -3 days)
    • 7 days of Paid holidays
  • Contributory Health insurance, Dental, Vision, 401K
  • Paid life insurance

Eligibility requirements

  • Academic: The applicant must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school or college or pharmacy
  • Professional License: All residents must be eligible for Florida licensure. Selected and matched residents must be licensed by August 1st.
  • Interview: An on-site or virtual interview is required. Interviews are conducted on Fridays during the months of January and February.
  • Non-Resident Alien Applicants: To be considered for employment, you must presently have an employment authorization that is valid throughout the residency period. We do not sponsor international visas.

Interested applicants must register for the resident matching program and submit all applications through PhORCAS.

Final deadline for submitting completed applications is Jan. 3.

  4. Standardized reference forms supplied by PhORCAS from three (3) professional sources
  5. Official transcript of the applicant’s pharmacy coursework and grades

After completed applications have been reviewed, the residency selection committee will notify selected applicants to arrange an on-site or virtual interview.
