Eric I Jeng, MD, MBA, FACS, FACC : Bio and credentials

Eric I. Jeng, MD, MBA, FACS, FACC, FCCP is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, the Surgical Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, the Surgical Director of the Bicuspid Aortic Valve Program, and the Associate Director of the Aortic Disease Center at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. In addition, he a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

Dr. Jeng was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and obtained his bachelor’s of science in Biology from the University of California Los Angeles in 2005. He subsequently completed a joint Doctorate of Medicine degree and Master’s in Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 2009. For his high scholastic achievement, Dr. Jeng was selected for membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society for Collegiate Schools of Business. Dr. Jeng stayed in Chicago to complete his general surgery internship and residency at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Science System. As a chief general surgery resident, he was awarded the Best Teacher Award from the Department of Surgery, and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine Mentors Program. He then moved to the University of Florida to complete a fellowship in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. During his chief cardiac fellowship year, Dr. Jeng gained specialty training in heart and lung transplantation, cardiopulmonary mechanical support, cardiothoracic minimally invasive and robotic surgery and complex aortic and valvular reconstruction.

Dr. Jeng has continued to contribute to the field of medicine and surgery with peer-reviewed journal articles. As a scientist and surgeon, Dr. Jeng’s research interests include translational research in cardiopulmonary mechanical support and heart and lung transplantation, dysphagia in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, artificial intelligence and advanced imaging technology, and economics in medicine. He has presented at both domestic and international conferences in these areas. At the University of Florida, Dr. Jeng contributes to groundbreaking innovations and clinical trials, teaches future physicians and surgeons and leads continuing medical education conferences for practicing medical providers. Furthermore, Dr. Jeng is a Co-Principal Investigator in a multi-year Research Project (R-01) funded by the National Institutes of Health to study dysphagia in cardiovascular surgery.

He is an active board member serving a three year term (2021-2024) as the Treasurer of the Faculty Council for the College of Medicine . Dr. Jeng is a member of several professional organizations including the Society of University Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, American College of Cardiology, American Lung Association and American Heart Association. Dr. Jeng offers operative expertise in heart and lung transplantation, ventricular assist device implantation, extracorporeal membranous oxygenation, cardiopulmonary mechanical support, transcatheter valve replacements, thoracic endovascular repair, minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery and complex aortic and valve pathology.
