My bio
Hi, my name is Giles Peek. I work as a professor at the UF Health Congenital Heart Center and am board-certified in cardiothoracic surgery by the Intercollegiate Specialty Board of the Royal College of Surgeons, and intensive care medicine by the Royal College of Anesthetists. I completed a higher research degree by thesis at the University of Leicester in England.
During my career, I served as a consultant (attending) cardiothoracic surgeon and head of service for the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre at Glenfield Hospital, where I was responsible for the management of pediatric cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiology and pediatric intensive care. I also provided services for adults with congenital heart disease. In addition, I was the director of the adult, pediatric and neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO program, where I initiated the country's first and only pediatric mobile ECMO service. I also served as chief of pediatric cardiac surgery at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in New York.
My research interest is in the use of ECMO for both cardiac and respiratory support for babies, children and adults. My clinical interests include the full range of congenital heart surgery, including transplantation in patients of all ages.
