My bio

My name is Justin Hilliard, MD. I am a neurosurgeon with a special focus in deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia. Beyond DBS, I treat patients with a wide range of neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, cranial trauma and spine trauma.

I graduated cum laude with research distinction in biomedical engineering from Duke University. I received my medical degree from the University of Virginia with research honors. During my time in medical school, I was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Medical Research Fellow. I performed both general neurosurgical training and a stereotactic and functional neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Florida.

Research is critical to improving our ability as clinicians to treat medical conditions more effectively. To this end, I am actively involved in several research efforts related to DBS. I am a co-investigator on a NIH R01 grant investigating improved synthetic dural material.

I am an advocate of neurosurgical education and have received the Society of Teaching Scholars Outstanding Resident Educator Award and the Neurosurgery Faculty Teacher of the Year award. I am a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.

I value my patients deeply and strive to provide them with a full understanding of their condition and the potential treatment options. Working closely with patients and their families, I pledge to support them through all stages of treatment and recovery, including pre-operative evaluation, surgery and post-operative course.
