My bio

My name is Kathryn Alfonso, DO, and I am an assistant professor at the UF Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. I earned my medical degree from Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington. Following medical school, I completed my residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and my fellowship training in primary care sports medicine at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. I am also a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine and the Wilderness Medical Society.

I specialize in treating endurance, performing arts and adaptive sport athletes using ultrasound diagnostics and procedures. Patients see me for various conditions including acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, tendonitis, bursitis, stress fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fasciitis, peripheral nerve entrapment and compression, and sports concussions. I became interested in physical medicine and rehabilitation because I enjoy using my expertise to help my patients recover and restore their function, independence and wellness to improve their quality of life. As a physician, my goal is to partner with my patients to address their concerns and help them achieve their individualized goals for their health, mobility and performance.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my dog, running, hiking, ballroom dancing and figure skating.
