At UF Health, our team of primary care sports medicine specialists, physiatrists, orthopaedic surgeons, physical therapists, athletic trainers, massage therapists and radiologists collaborate to provide expert care and the full range of orthopaedic and physical medicine and rehabilitative services.
We provide diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in patients ranging from children to high-performance athletes and older adults. Our providers offer same-day imaging and rehabilitation services as part of a patient-centered approach to managing sports-related injuries.

UF Health physicians and trained staff care for some of the area’s top athletes and provide medical care for the University of Florida Gators, Santa Fe Saints and many local high schools. They are the “team behind the team” and take care of Gator athletes in all sports including football, basketball, swimming and diving, baseball and softball, track and field, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, volleyball, golf and lacrosse. We also provide athletic training services to high schools across North Central Florida as part of our leading regional community outreach program.
Our sports medicine team are international leaders in the field. They have received sports grants from US Lacrosse, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and Shape America, improving medical care for exercise and sports injuries and mentoring the sports medicine physicians of tomorrow. Additionally, our physicians have presented at the International Olympic Committee’s World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport.
Our sports medicine doctors often work with olympic level athletes across a number of sports including Team USA Swimming, Team USA Paralympic Fencing and more.
University Athletic Association team physician Dr. Kevin Farmer was named the 2023 SEC Team Physician of the Year, voted on by fellow sports medicine staff at each school in the Southeastern Conference. He was recognized for excellence as an orthopedic surgeon.
At the UF Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute, both our orthopedists and physiatrists treat sports medicine conditions, mainly musculoskeletal injuries. Our physicians offer both surgical and non-surgical treatments for sports-related injuries.
