Support Groups

A support network can be so helpful and important in navigating a patient through treatment. Support helps you not just live, but thrive and stay positive.

Emotional support for your child is key, but parents cannot forget to take care of themselves. Most importantly, parents of children with a congenital heart defect should not blame themselves. CHDs are the most common type of birth defect in the United States. Children affected with CHDs are living longer and healthier lives.

Parents should ask questions, learn about the heart condition and seek support whenever possible. Family and friends can be a great resource for helping with child care and other tasks. Parents should stay energized and healthy by keeping up with their own sleep and nutrition. Taking an occasional break from caregiving can help you do so.

Reaching out to a support group early on can be very beneficial for parents of children with CHDs. Here are several resources and support groups available to patients and families.
