At UF Health, our specialized pediatric teams are committed to providing our families with the most advanced technologies and resources to care for their children.

When your child is diagnosed with a single-ventricle heart defect, like hypoplastic left heart syndrome, the time between the first and second reconstructive operation is the most critical for monitoring vital signs. In an effort to reduce confusion and anxiety for families during this time, the UF Health Congenital Heart Center now offers a unique program for the caregiver’s at-home recovery period. The UF Health Congenital Heart Center is proud to be the first in Florida to offer specially configured iPads to caregivers of infants diagnosed with single-ventricle heart defects. The iPads allow caregivers to submit vital signs and other important data about their child’s condition to clinicians at UF Health in real time. Vitals are submitted directly into a clinician portal, and families are able to engage with the clinical team in a number of ways, including secure video and photo capabilities.
