Telehealth Appointments
UF Health Pediatrics and Pediatric Specialties are pleased to report that our practices will be increasing in-person visits while continuing, in some cases, to offer telehealth visits. It is important to know that we have implemented a number of measures to safeguard the health of our patients, visitors and caregivers. Please visit coronavirus.ufhealth.org for the latest updates and information about safety measures being taken at UF Health.
Please contact your provider to schedule an appointment and they will determine if a telehealth visit is right for you. View our telehealth section for assistance in how to prepare for and connect to a scheduled appointment. We appreciate your trust in our clinical care and look forward to serving your health care needs.
Using telehealth, UF Health Pediatric Specialties – Tallahassee provides a unique opportunity for University of Florida physicians in Gainesville to care for patients in Tallahassee.
UF physicians will regularly travel to Tallahassee to see new and returning patients in person. During telehealth visits, patients will be cared for by full-time nurses and staff with the UF specialty physician interacting directly with the patient via live video chat. If required, labs can be taken onsite during the patient's appointment.
Telehealth is a method of providing health care services remotely using technology. Our program allows physicians in one location to care for patients in a different location through live video chat. A secure and convenient online app allows patients to communicate with physicians through a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Telehealth expands access to quality patient care in a way that makes it easier for children and families. Telehealth is often more efficient than in-person appointments because it:
- Reduces travel time for patients and physicians.
- Eliminates lodging expenses for patients.
- Improves access for patients.
- Minimizes missed work and school time.
Telehealth visits are approved by Medicaid. Other insurance may also cover telehealth on a case-by-case basis.
Meet Vincent
At age 5, Vincent was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis. He dreams of being a scientist, but he needed a solution to eliminate his constant cough.
Vincent relied on the chemistry between his UF Health pediatric gastroenterologist, Dr. Christopher Jolley, and other expert caregivers. Together, they formulated a treatment plan that had a successful outcome. Seeing that Vincent and his family live in Tallahassee, they benefited from the telehealth appointments offered by this UF Health pediatric specialty practice. They are grateful for the UF Health team and the care they provided to Vincent that allowed him to get back to his science lab.
