Orthopaedics at UF Health

Orthopaedics and its related services focus on the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. This includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles.

Adults and children can be affected by a multitude of complications across several body parts, and UF Health Orthopaedics is fully equipped to diagnose and treat each one. Patients are referred for orthopaedic care after being seen by one of our sports medicine physicians.

UF Health Orthopaedics is among the most renowned in the United States when it comes to treating cancers associated with the musculoskeletal system, such as sarcoma and osteoma. Our orthopaedic oncology program is made up of an expertly trained group that performs resection, reconstruction, rotationplasty and more to help patients move past their cancer-related conditions.

Children with musculoskeletal conditions couldn’t be in better hands at the Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute (OSMI), which is home to the nationally recognized Shriners Center of Excellence located on the fourth floor. Our distinguished service there has cemented our standing as the region’s most robust pediatric orthopaedics practice. Our fellowship-trained surgeons can help correct deformities or deficiencies in the spine, limbs, feet, etc. They’re also fully equipped to handle sports injuries as well as congenital, developmental or neuromuscular issues.

Our Orthopaedic facility

The OSMI facility on Hull Road is a dynamic structure geared toward comprehensive musculoskeletal clinical care. It features 48 orthopaedic patient rooms divided in four quads, totaling 40,000 square feet. The OSMI was designed to consolidate patient-oriented research and clinical services.The facility includes:

• An open 10,000-square foot gym/treatment area
• A 1,000-square foot in-ground aquatic exercise pool
• A 1,000-square foot functional training area dedicated to agility and return-to-sport activities
• A biomechanics lab to analyze the kinetics/kinematics of athletic motions for research/performance enhancement

Foot and Ankle

As the only orthopaedic center in the area with fellowship-trained foot and ankle specialists, we provide comprehensive treatment plans that aid many patients with a variety of conditions. From common athletic injuries to advanced reconstructive surgeries, we are here to help you get back in motion. We also have a dedicated podiatrist available to tend to your personal podiatry needs.

Sports Medicine

From treating everyday sports enthusiasts to the nation's top athletes, our team of physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and massage therapists provide expert care in our first-class facilities. Our sports medicine team helps patients ranging from children to older adults across a spectrum of activity levels by providing diagnosis, treatment, imaging and rehabilitation services.

Our Sports Performance Center provides leading edge fitness, sport and health assessments for all levels, ages and athletes involved in sports performance. We offer a variety of tests, such as anaerobic power tests and muscle strength testing, to help you identify and achieve your fitness-related goals.

Orthopaedic Oncology

We are the only center in the area that specializes in the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas and orthopaedic oncology. Our physicians have extensive experience in the surgical management of limb and life-threatening tumors, and they are dedicated to delivering their expertise with compassion.

Our all-encompassing practice consists of fellowship-trained orthopaedic oncology surgeons and a team of pathologists, adult and pediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, general and thoracic surgeons, nurses, therapists and social workers. This multidisciplinary team convenes on a weekly basis to nurture our dutiful communication and deliberate the intricate needs of our patients.

Trauma

We are home to the region's largest concentration of fellowship-trained specialists in orthopaedic trauma. From a simple, unexpected fracture to accident-related polytrauma, our team of orthopaedic traumatologists coordinates and provides care for the region's most complex cases.
