ATM and banking

  • ATMs are located in the UF Health Shands Hospital atrium and in the main lobby of UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital
  • A Campus USA office and ATM are located on the ground floor of UF Health Shands Hospitalin

Cell phone use

Cell phones may be used in some of the hallways and in all waiting rooms. Nextel communication devices may be used anywhere at UF Health Shands Hospital and UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital. Cell phones that don’t use Nextel service are prohibited from the following areas:

  • Emergency and trauma service areas
  • Adult intermediate care unit
  • Floors that are using extensive medical telemetry
  • Intensive care units
  • Postoperative recovery room

Cell phones can be used in patient rooms as long as they are three feet away from the following medical equipment:

  • Patient monitors
  • Infusion pumps
  • Telemetry transmitters

Housekeeping services

If you have any concerns about maintenance problems or cleaning issues in your room, let your nurse know or call I-CARE, 4-2273 directly. This number only works when calling from within UF Health Shands Hospital.

Interpreters/hearing impaired

  • Call (352) 594-5004 to request a staff Spanish Medical Interpreter Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • After hours, or for other languages, please use a CyraCom phone or video
    remote at patient's bedside (available in HVNM and Cancer Hospitals).
  • Video Remote Interpreter carts for patients who are deaf and require American
    Sign Language Interpreters can be accessed through Environmental Services.

Mail and flowers

To send mail to hospital patients, please use the following address:

  • A post office is located on the ground floor (one floor below the first floor) of UF Health Shands Hospital. It is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mail must be dropped off by 3 p.m. to be postmarked that day. Mail is delivered to patient rooms Monday through Friday by UF Health Shands Auxiliary volunteers.
  • Latex balloons are prohibited on patient units.
  • Some patients are unable to receive flowers for health reasons. Please contact the unit for further information.

Notary public

Notary services are available to patient/visitors for hospital related business Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Notary is located in the post office on the ground floor of UF Health Shands Hospital.

Public restrooms

  • Visitors should not use the bathrooms in patient rooms. They are reserved only for patients in order to protect their health.
  • Public restrooms are located throughout the hospital.

Family restroom facilities

Both the men’s and women’s restrooms in the following locations have diaper changing stations:

UF Health Shands Hospital

  • First-floor Atrium area near the elevators (Rooms 1296.1 and 1296.2)
  • First floor near the Food Court exit and the Chapel (Rooms 1207 and 1209)
  • Fourth floor near the Welcome Station (Rooms 4501 and 4503)
  • Sixth floor near the six elevators accessible via the Atrium (Room 6257)

UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital

  • Family restrooms are available on each floor.

Safety and security

The Safety and Security department ensures the security of the campus while you are visiting with us. They can assist with escorts to patient and visitor garages during evening and night shifts, automobile jump-starts, and contacting a locksmith for car lockouts. For routine business call (352) 265-0109 and for emergency service requests call (352) 265-0911.

Wellness

The UF Health Fitness and Wellness Center is located on the first floor of the UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital and Critical Care Center parking garage on southwest 13th Street. If you are here for an extended stay with a patient, or if you are a patient and would like to explore medical fitness after being discharged, the Fitness and Wellness Center programs are for you. All aspects of the programs are aimed at helping you achieve a healthy and fit lifestyle that lasts a lifetime.

In your room

Television

Televisions are provided in each patient room. Please be considerate of others by keeping the TV volume down and turning off your TV at bedtime. All the televisions are capable of closed captioning. If you need closed captioning, your nurse can make the arrangements.

Wi-Fi/internet

While at UF Health, use our free Wi-Fi. It’s available in patient rooms, lobbies, waiting rooms, dining areas and terraces. No password is needed:

  • Please select the Wi-Fi network named ufhealthguest
  • Read and accept the Acceptable Use Policy to connect
  • If you need help connecting, call (352) 265-0526

For patient privacy, there are some areas where you may not use a wireless device. These include critical care units and surgical areas.

Electrical appliances

Electrical appliances including hair dryers, curling irons, razors, radios, heating pads, portable heaters, VCRs, computers and other devices are not permitted in patient rooms. You may use only battery-operated devices.
