The Transportation, Lodging and Care Program

  • The UF Health Transportation, Lodging and Care Program (TLC) is a list of local hotels that provide discounts and shuttle services available to patients and families who need to stay in Gainesville overnight.

Transplant Housing

  • Patients receiving a transplant at the UF Health Transplant Center may be required to stay near their health care providers for a period of time after discharge from the hospital.
  • Patients who live further than one hour away from UF Health Shands Hospital may speak with a social worker about assistance with temporary housing. There is a limited amount of financial assistance for this service.
  • UF Health maintains contracts with multiple apartment complexes and extended stay hotels which offer all-inclusive apartments at low cost to families who need to reside in the area.

Shands Samaritan Lodging

The Shands Samaritan Lodging program provides local, discounted housing to families through grants and philanthropic gifts.

The program includes sliding-scale, temporary housing for patients and their families who are required by their prognosis and treatment plan to reside short-term in the local Gainesville area.

To qualify or inquire about the Samaritan Lodging program, one of the following criteria needs to be met:

  • Patient is receiving either a transplant or specialized treatment at UF Health
  • Patients and families are traveling long distances from home for emergency situations with limited resources for securing housing

Ronald McDonald House

  • The Ronald McDonald House is a 30-bedroom house established for use by the parents and families of children being treated at UF Health Shands Children's Hospital and physician's medical practices.
  • For a modest donation, families can stay at the house, located within walking distance of UF Health Shands Hospital.
  • You can also ride the UF Health Shands Hospital Visitor-Parking Shuttle.
  • The UF Health Admissions Department is happy to assist you with making arrangements to stay at the house.

American Cancer Society's Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge

  • Hope Lodge provides comfortable, temporary housing for out-of-town patients who are receiving cancer treatment.
  • It is capable of serving up to 45 patients plus one companion per patient.
  • Hope Lodge is located at 2121 SW 16th Street, which is within walking distance to UF Health Shands Hospital.
  • You can also ride the UF Health Shands Hospital Visitor-Parking Shuttle.
